Coastal Appliance Co. attended the inaugural Hawaii Sustainability Expo & Electric Home Show on April 25-26th.
The Hawaii Sustainability Expo & Electric Home Show is a expo to showcase sustainable, clean energy and energy efficient home solutions. The expo is also focused on informing the community on these solutions for reducing energy costs, clean energy, and making a sustainable future for Hawaii.

Coastal Appliance Co. was one of the premier vendors of the expo to display energy efficient and clean energy appliances. The appliances displayed allowed Coastal Appliance Co. to show and inform attendees that there are sustainable and clean energy appliances for all home appliances. Another main focus was to promote the programs and rebates that Hawaii Energy has available for homeowners.
The featured displays were: Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove kitchen suite, Fisher & Paykel kitchen display, GE's Geospring heat pump water heater, and the GE Profile all-in-one heat pump washer and dryer.
Sub-Zero is most known for their luxury and prestige in the appliance world but what most people don't know is that they design their refrigerators to be energy efficient to the point that it only uses as much energy as a 100w light bulb on energy star models.
The induction range from Wolf was featured as a clean energy solution for cooking. When it comes to induction cooking, Wolf induction ranges are the most known for their even heating, heat control, and speed. Wolf induction ranges perform is as if you are cooking with gas, making it the perfect clean energy replacement.
The Cove dishwasher is Sub-Zero's dishwasher that is energy star rated and among the most efficient and best performing dishwashers on the market. Cove dishwashers can use any where from 5-8 gallons of water per load when compared to hand washing dishes which can use up to 20-30 gallon. Cove is also designed to last 20 years like all of Sub-Zero / Wolf appliances.

Heat pump technology in appliances was also featured at the Coastal Appliance Co. booth. The GE Geospring heat pump water heater and GE UltraFast one-and-done heat pump all-in-one laundry were on display for attendees.
GE's Geospring heat pump water heater is the perfect water heater if you are looking to get a energy efficient water heater that is not solar.
Hot water is one of the most important systems in any home, but it can also be one of the biggest contributors to energy use. GE Profile GeoSpring heat pump water heaters are designed to change that by combining advanced heat pump technology, smart controls, flexible installation options, and high-performance hot water delivery.
Unlike standard electric water heaters that rely primarily on electric resistance heating, GeoSpring heat pump water heaters use ambient air to help heat water more efficiently. GE states that GeoSpring can deliver up to 4.7x more energy efficiency than standard electric models, exceeding ENERGY STAR® requirements. An added bonus is that the space the heat pump water heater is in will be cooled by 2-3 degrees.
A heat pump water heater draws heat from the surrounding air and transfers it into the water stored in the tank. This allows the system to use less electricity than a traditional electric water heater while still producing reliable hot water for daily use.
For homeowners, that means GeoSpring can help lower energy consumption without sacrificing comfort. GE highlights potential homeowner savings of up to $550+ on annual energy bills, based on a comparison between a GE standard electric water heater and a GE Profile heat pump water heater.
GE's UltraFast combo features heat pump technology for drying clothes that only requires an 120v outlet.
The key technology behind GE’s heat pump laundry system is its ventless heat pump dryer. Instead of relying on a traditional high-heat vented drying system, the UltraFast Combo uses recirculated airflow to dry clothes more gently. GE describes its Fast Airflow Drying System as using high-speed, recirculated air to dry large loads, heavy jeans, and delicates without high heat.
Because it is ventless, the UltraFast Combo does not require an exterior dryer vent. GE notes that it can be installed in a closet, kitchen, or other laundry space where there is a 120V outlet and water hookup. This gives homeowners more flexibility than a traditional washer and dryer pair.
Whether you are replacing appliances or doing a new build, always make sure you get the most energy efficient appliances. This will save you the most money in the long run especially with the cost of electricity in Hawaii being 3 times the national average. Coastal Appliance Co. will help you find the most sustainable and energy efficient appliances that suits your needs.
